I like things that are simple but special.  And I can say that yesterday was special.  Plans had been made and revealed for a special family birthday trip coming soon, a few handmade gifts (which were excitedly worn out and about yesterday), and the birthday girls chose their favorite somewhat local activity for the day with a picnic lunch.

Two petite cakes were made (here's an excellent coconut flour vanilla bean yellow cake recipe) and decorated without any pressure of a birthday party on my heels.  I took care of cakes while Bobby bathed kids.  We celebrated on the back porch with wet-haired kids and merry singing.

It was simple, not spectacular, and absolutely enjoyable.  I love making these kind of memories.

Isn't that what family is all about??
