So this Friday is International Children's Book Day and Hann Christian Andersen's Birthday. Ibby's (International Board of Books for Young People) aim is "to inspire a love of reading and to call attention to children's books". Here are some things to check out:
- Bookstart out of Wales--gives book reviews and has games with very cool illustrations
- Digital Gallery of World Books--this is one of my favorites. You can see full picture books from the West and Japan from the 18th century to 1930s.
- Book Chat- a South African book list
- Seven Stories- a very cool British museum dedicated to children's books
As for me, once some things slow down this week, we'll start working on retelling one of our favorite Andersen fairy tales to perform this Friday. I think a trip to the library would be necessary, too, to load up on new exciting treasures. Then I'll finally stop fretting about the $30 or so I owe in overdue books from months ago...
We do these things as mothers, don't we, in the name of doing what's best for our children, even if it causes embarrassment.
