becoming a mother

This photograph does a lot for me.  It is of my mother after giving birth to her first child, my oldest sister.  I love the soft light from the window, the old technology in the background, the watch I remember her wearing when I was a child.  There is a certain contentment on her face and in her position. She has just become a mother; no prizes won, applause given, but quietly, and calmly, is changed.

Thoughts of Mother's Day have been on my mind.  I want to tribute mothers this week.  I hope you can tell a tale of yours to a child or through a note.  I hope you can pass on your tribute to your mother or a mother who has changed you.

I'd love to hear from you... how has your mother changed you?

"A mother is a mother still, the holiest thing alive."

Samuel Taylor Coleridge
